Alderwood - Where the Alder Trees Grow
🌿

Etobicoke · Toronto · South West

You Already Know Toronto.
Now Meet Alderwood.

Where the Alder Trees Grow - Est. 1933

Twenty minutes from the core. Steps from the lake. Tucked between mature ravines and tree-lined bungalow streets, Alderwood is the neighbourhood Toronto didn't know it was missing - until now.

"It has the big trees, the big parks, the generous lots - but with none of the downtown noise. The kind of place where families have been neighbours for fifty years."

- A Local Perspective on Alderwood

Quiet Streets. Big City Minutes Away.

Alderwood sits in the southwestern corner of Toronto - close enough that the skyline is a conversation starter, far enough that the kids ride their bikes without you hovering. Here's what life actually looks like.

🌳

Mature Tree Canopy

Streets shaded by decades-old trees give Alderwood a calm, leafy feel that newer neighbourhoods simply can't replicate. "The Valley" as we refer to it, shows just how close to the city core beautiful nature is.

🏡

Genuine Lots & Driveways

Private driveways and garages are the norm, not the exception. Well-maintained bungalows, many post-war originals, sit on generous lots - a rarity in today's Toronto.

🚗

~20 Min to Downtown

Via the Gardiner Expressway or Lake Shore Blvd, the core is genuinely close. The Long Branch GO & TTC station also connects you without a car. Highway 427 and the QEW are right there too.

🦅

Wildlife in the Ravine

The Etobicoke Creek corridor is home to more wildlife than most city-dwellers expect - salmon running, deer, herons, rabbits, foxes and many other sights rare to "big city". Dog walks here feel like a genuine escape.

👨‍👩‍👧

Deep-Rooted Community

46% of households are families with kids. Many neighbours have known each other for decades. Active local Facebook groups and events, local school socials, community centers and events keep it tight-knit. (Save your pumpkin for the parade! You'll get it soon...)

🏊

The Alderwood Centre

Library, pool, daycare, outdoor rink, tennis courts - all in one community hub on Horner Ave. The kind of facility that makes "amenities" read as "new friendships".

The Places That Make It Home

Your neighbouring businesses are what really make life enjoyable, we recommend the following based on excellent collective community praise! Now, we are NOT looking to start a debate but we have been in tune with the neighbours and the results are in...

Most Notable Mentions: (Let us know your recommendation.)

  • Malfara's Auto - Opening with a repairshop/gas station?! We know... But you'll thank us! We believe trusted necessities allow your mind to explore the fun - so this recommendation will keep your car moving. They have on par gas prices with FULL-SERVICE care. That's right no extra charge to stay warm and dry in your car - our neighbourhood is truly grateful. Additionally, they can ensure your car stays in prime condition for the commute at a very honest and reasonable rate. Probably why they have been operating here since 1967!
  • Health For Life Centre - While newer to the neighbourhood (not the area though), it's quickly endearing itself as a go-to for wellness improvement!
  • Franklin Horner Community Center - Has community and seniors programs, rentable spaces and more. This centerpiece helps socially weave our community together
  • Horner Avenue Seniors' Centre - Community programming that signals a neighbourhood with deep generational roots.
  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch 101 - Plays host to weekly live music and community events and seniors activities.
  • Feast of Dilli - Indian Food, in the heart of Alderwood's strip - come hungry!
  • Delish Kitchen - Taking the torch from a trusted long time restaurant in this location (Leziz) this Mediterranean eatery has been crushing their start! Check out the Google reviews, and then check it out in person!
  • Chinese Food in proximity..." - With heavy debate on "THE" best, we can tell you this: Chinese Food Gallery (Bloor and Kipling) has a solid standing, as does Congee Queen on Dundas, Hong Kong Gardens at Royal York and Bloor, and Cantonese Gourmet. Those should give enough variety to sidestep the subpar.
  • Brown's Line Donuts - This landmark has been around! Despite the name, it is also now serving English and Indian meal options. So don't be confused, and don't turn around - just give it a try!
  • OBQ Burgers - Longstanding hunger assassin, this highly rated burger joint is one most in the neighbourhood agree on. While others come and go - they have proven they're accepted into the fold!
  • Timothy's - AKA better "Tim's" - This pub offers down to earth vibes, live music, arguabley the best wings you'll get without a pilots license and the pints you'd like to unwind. Close enough to safely walk home on a summer's eve.
  • Il Paesano Pizzeria & Restaurant - A neighbourhood institution since 1959. That's not a typo. Over 65 years of wood-fired history on these streets.
  • Breakfast Bests - While you could choose a franchise - really anywherre that is open in the morning we recommend hitting up nearby North Queen to The Olive - you're welcome... You'll understand why we didn't feel the need to explain. But there are plenty of other places nearby - but Google can let you know "second" places.
  • Farm Boy at Alderwood Plaza - The anchor grocer on Browns Line. Quality produce, prepared foods, and a loyal local following.
  • Kettleman's Bagel - Also in the Browns Line plaza. Montreal-style bagels, wood-fired, a genuine local food moment.
  • Brown's Line & Lake Shore - Where the street meets the waterfront: indie coffee, empanadas, authentic Mexican, and a craft burger spot. A micro-food scene hiding in plain sight.
  • Alderwood Memorial Park - Open green space at the heart of the neighbourhood. The kind of park you bring a blanket to.
  • Arts Etobicoke - A short drive away, with rotating exhibitions and community art programming.

Typically, there will be a Christmas Car Tour - A procession is planned and limited in participation, however plugging into the local residents facebook groups can keep you up on all the happenings! There is a "Pumpkin Parade" lighting the end of like pumpkins after Halloween. There used to be fireworks at Sir Adam Beck, which could hopefully return - but there can be neighbours showing their spirit in random locations. And yes, there can be the annual street party to discover!
